What happened to Horizon Travel?
Horizon Travel were a successful holiday company based in Birmingham. They operated from a large building at Broadway, Edgbaston, Five Ways, Birmingham B15 1BB. Horizon Travel also operated its own airline, Orion Airways until the company was sold off by its owners, Bass to the Thomson Travel Group in 1990.
The Thomson Travel Group was subsequently taken over by the German tour operator, TUI and then were known as TUI UK Limited until 2007.
TUI UK Limited merged with First Choice Holidays in September 2007 and is now known as TUI Travel plc. The company now operates their 2 main brands of Thomson and First Choice Holidays.
Take a trip back in time with this TV advert for Horizon Travel which was still owned by the Bass Brewery when broadcast at Christmas 1983. They are promoting the 1984 summer season brochure with the strap line 'Horizon, your the best'!
